The Issue of Illegal Immigration

Issue: IMMIGRATION AND BORDER CONTROL

When talking about the issue of our borders, there are no easy answers. There are no quick fixes. And yet, there is something that needs to be addressed, and I’m not hearing it. I have not heard the issue of border control being addressed properly. The only illegal immigration that we see daily within the borders of each state is the problem of homelessness.

People passing from one state to another are actually Illegal Immigrants. By definition, Illegal Immigration refers to the migration of people into a country in violation of the immigration laws of that country. Each State in the Union holds that same sovereign governmental jurisdiction over a defined geographic territory. And each State shares its sovereignty with the United States. We call that Checks and Balances. According to numerous decisions of the United States Supreme Court, each of the 50 individual states and the United States as a whole are sovereign jurisdictions. As we give over parts of our State sovereignty to the federal government, we are diminishing the powers of Checks and Balances; and those balances were put in place for a purpose.

We are a Republic. And as a Republic, each State presides over a geographic territory.  I know I am restating this: the federal government does not decide the fate of each individual state. If we are in fact a Republic, Checks and Balances were put in place, by the founding fathers in the Constitution of the United States, for our BALANCE of power. And in matters of legal jurisdiction, and according to the Supreme Court, each of the 50 individual states, and the United States as a whole, are sovereign states. Those decisions which people cannot decide at the state level, the federal government is asked to intervene. We first need to have a discussion and come to an agreement with the Constitution that we have the power at the state level to decide about the issues of illegal aliens on our borders.

The relabeling of illegal aliens at the border, to rename them as illegally immigrating within the United States, is actually changing what we think about those persons that are illegally crossing into our borders. People passing from one state to another are actually Illegal Immigrants. If we choose to allow the federal government to deal with the problem, then FIRST the issue of sovereignty of States needs to be addressed.
